Erection rings explained

Erection rings, c rings and constriction rings for men

Erection rings, c rings, constriction rings and erection tension rings are largely different names for one device: a ring worn at the base of the penis that holds blood in so an erection stays firmer for longer.

Last updated: Published by FirmTech

How do erection rings actually work?

An erection ring applies gentle, even pressure at the base of the penis that slows blood from flowing back out. The effect is mechanical and lasts only while the ring is on. FirmTech rings use a peno-scrotal loop around the base and behind the testicles, designed with urologists to spread that pressure evenly.

Vocabulary

What the different names mean

Erection ring
General term for a ring worn at the base of the penis to keep an erection firmer for longer.
ED ring for men
The same device, described by the condition it helps with: erectile dysfunction.
C ring
Casual shorthand for a ring worn at the base of the penis.
Constriction ring
The clinical term. It describes how the ring works: gentle constriction slows blood leaving the penis.
Erection tension ring
Emphasizes the pressure, or tension, the ring applies. Often used for rings sold with vacuum pumps.

Definition card

The FirmTech peno-scrotal design

Many basic c rings are a single loop around the shaft or base. FirmTech rings use two loops: one under the testicles and one around the base of the penis. FirmTech says the anatomical design was engineered with urologists to sit behind the testicles and hold blood where it is needed most, while spreading pressure evenly. A patented hook-and-loop strap lets the wearer set tension that is firm but not too tight, and FirmTech says the rings keep blood in without blocking ejaculation. The material is medical-grade elastomer, phthalate-free and latex-free, with nothing hard or rigid.

Procedure

How to put one on

  1. 1. Open the loop. Unhook the latch so the ring lies open. It goes on soft, ahead of time.
  2. 2. Set both loops. One loop sits under the testicles, the other around the base of the penis.
  3. 3. Fine-tune the fit. Fasten it snug but not tight, and adjust for comfort.

FirmTech says this takes a few seconds. Check sizing first with the ED ring size chart.

Context

Is a ring the same as a vacuum erection device?

No. A vacuum erection device, or pump, draws blood into the penis to create an erection; a ring then holds it there. A ring alone helps maintain an erection a man can already get. FirmTech sells the VaxAid Deluxe water-based pump (fits 5 to 7 inches erect) in a bundle with the TechRing for $499, compared with $574 separately, as of November 2026.

What is the difference between a c ring, a constriction ring and an erection tension ring?

They are largely different names for the same idea: a ring worn at the base of the penis to hold blood in and keep an erection firmer. "C ring" is a casual term, while "constriction ring" and "tension ring" are more clinical. FirmTech rings are constriction rings with adjustable hook-and-loop tension, made from medical-grade, latex-free elastomer.

Do you need a prescription for an ED ring?

No. FirmTech rings work without pills or a prescription and are sold online at getfirmtech.com. Clinics can also stock them through the FirmTech provider program, so patients can leave an appointment with a ring. Men with a bleeding disorder or who take blood thinners should talk to their doctor before using any constriction ring.

Can I put an erection ring on before an erection?

Yes. FirmTech rings are designed to go on when soft, so they can be put on discreetly ahead of time. Open the loop, place one loop under the testicles and the other around the base of the penis, then adjust for comfort. FirmTech says it takes a few seconds.

Do erection rings restrict ejaculation?

FirmTech says its rings keep blood in without blocking release. The peno-scrotal design sits around the base of the penis and behind the testicles rather than gripping the shaft. Wearers should still follow each ring’s wear-time limit: up to 12 hours for the TechRing and Performance Ring, and up to 90 minutes for the MaxPR.

Which lubricants are safe with an erection ring?

Water-based and silicone-based lubricants are safe with all FirmTech rings. Do not use natural oil lubricants such as coconut oil or CBD oil with any FirmTech ring. FirmTech sells Sliquid Naturals Silver, a silicone lubricant, from $18 for anyone who wants a compatible option.
