FirmTech for Clinicians

TechRing for doctors

The TechRing for doctors and clinics

The TechRing gives doctors objective, at-home data on a patient's erectile function, recorded during sex and overnight, and shared with the clinic only when the patient allows it.

Last updated: Published by FirmTech

Why would a doctor recommend the TechRing to a patient?

Because the FirmTech TechRing turns erectile function into recorded numbers instead of recall. It measures firmness and duration during sex and counts nighttime erections during sleep, which happen without arousal. Provider program clinics can view that data with permission, so treatment changes can be judged against a baseline rather than memory.

Why nighttime data matters

Definition card

Nighttime erections as a signal

Nighttime erections, sometimes called nocturnal erections, occur during sleep without sexual thought or stimulation. FirmTech notes that healthy men have 3 to 5 a night. Because arousal, stress and performance anxiety are not involved, they are a relatively clean read of the three systems an erection depends on: blood vessels, hormones and nerves. FirmTech also points out that penile arteries are smaller than the heart’s, so circulation changes can show up there first. Until wearable devices, measuring them typically meant a sleep lab. The TechRing records them at home, and the app shows the count, strength and length of each night.

Research card

What researchers are studying

A 2024 paper in Urologiia examined overnight erections as a predictor of coronary heart disease, and a 2026 paper in Urology examined erectile dysfunction and coronary calcium scoring. FirmTech lists trials underway on the TechRing versus RigiScan (35 men enrolled), on erectile recovery after prostate cancer surgery, on monitoring erectile function during testosterone therapy, on sleep and blood sugar, and on managing premature ejaculation. A multi-center study is comparing nighttime and during-sex rigidity with coronary atherosclerosis in men over 40.

Procedure

How a patient starts with the TechRing

FirmTech describes setup as taking about three minutes.
  1. Step 1

    Charge

Plug in with the included USB cable. A full charge takes 2 to 4 hours and lasts about 12.

  2. Step 2

    Pair

Download the FirmTech app, turn on Bluetooth and follow the prompts to connect the ring.

  3. Step 3

    Wear

Wear it during sex or overnight. In the morning, hold the button for 3 seconds, charge it and sync in the app.

FirmTech suggests wearing the TechRing about once a week for a clearer picture over time. The patient controls sharing: they choose which clinician sees the data and can stop at any time, and they can delete their data from inside the app. For stocking rings in your practice, see the FirmTech provider program.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers to what clinicians and patients ask most. Read all 48 answers in the full FAQ.

Why would a doctor recommend the TechRing?

Because it gives objective, at-home data on erectile function between visits. Worn during sex it measures firmness and duration; worn overnight it counts and measures nighttime erections, which happen without arousal. With the patient’s permission, clinics in the FirmTech provider program can view that data, so care decisions rest on recorded numbers rather than recall alone.

What data does the TechRing record?

Firmness and duration during sex, plus the count, strength and length of nighttime erections. The app rolls these into an Erectile Fitness Score from 0 to 100, and users can log sleep, drinks, workouts and medication to see what moves the score. The app works on iPhone and Android and connects to the ring over Bluetooth.

Can clinicians see a patient’s TechRing data?

Yes, with permission. The FirmTech provider program lets partner clinics view a patient’s firmness, duration and nighttime erections between visits. Patients decide who sees their data and can stop sharing at any time. FirmTech says the data is stored securely, handled to HIPAA standards, never sold, and can be deleted from inside the app.

Why do nighttime erections matter clinically?

Nighttime erections happen without arousal, so they are a relatively clean read of vascular, hormonal and neurological function. FirmTech notes that healthy men have 3 to 5 a night during sleep, and that penile arteries are smaller than the heart’s, so circulation changes can show there first. Researchers have studied overnight erections as a predictor of coronary heart disease.

How does the TechRing compare to RigiScan?

FirmTech has a clinical trial underway comparing the TechRing with RigiScan, which it calls the clinic standard, with 35 men enrolled as of November 2026. Results were not yet listed as published on the FirmTech clinical studies page at that date. The practical difference today is setting: the TechRing records at home, during sex or overnight.

How often should a patient wear the TechRing to see a trend?

FirmTech says wearing the TechRing about once a week gives a clearer picture of vascular and sexual health, and notes that a single night says little while weeks of nights say much more. The battery lasts up to 12 hours on a full charge, so one overnight wear covers a full night of sleep.
